Test Shots

The final photo would be of the face and neck or the back, but it would be difficult to demonstrate on myself, so i chose to show on the hand.
_________________________________________________________

I drew out the basics of the bones in the hand. This represents the link between people in technology. I was going to do veins, but bones seemed more of an interesting choice.

I wrapped wires around the arm to show that people surround themselves with technology and have a dependancy on it.

For the final result, I cropped it so it was more focused on the arm, and pixelated it by reducing resolution and lowering the quality it was saved at. I also added noise, to make it look like an old crackling TV.
I like the final result and will apply it to the final idea. I would improve the final idea by adding more detail to the silver bones. I will also improve the compisition by putting if off centre and also using photshop adds another digital aspect to it. I have a clear idea of what the subject matter is for my final photos, but I will still have to experiment with body movements and stances.

Article on Digital Planet

http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/digitalp

The podcast was about the Internet getting shut down in Libya, as Gadaffi is the only Internet service provider and it stops the people of Libya form accessing news in the outside world and keeping the world updated. It was also about the Ipad 2, and how the upgrade has been released a couple of weeks after the Ipad, so they make more money. It also covered digital radio stations, and how the are loosing listeners because people can customise their play list to their personal tastes online.

Timeline

1973 - First mobile phone call
1973 - Martin Cooper - inventor of the first portable handset and the first person to make a call on a portable cell phone in April 1973.

I think this was significant since mobile phones are used more now that house phones, and there has been so much development in mobile phone technology, such as touch screen, apps and using the Internet.

1957 - Internet was invented as part of a space program.

I think the invention of the Internet was significant as it lead to the development of being used on home computers and people being able to access information quickly from all over the world.

1990 Photoshop

This lead to new types of graphic design and photography.

Idea

My final idea is to cover a person in wires, and paint silver arilic paint were their veins are. This would show a link between people and technology. Also, it could represent how people are dependent on the technology they have. I would either show the neck and torso, or the back. The face of the modle would not be in the photo, as it could represent everyone.
I would also pixelate the photo as a whole so it puts more emphasis on technology, and it would also make the veins look more bonded into the skin. It would also make the photo look different for the different distances away you stand. If I had not done te research on pixelation, I would not have thought to use pixelate the image.

To make the photo stand out, I would give it a black or white background, I would have to experiment to see which one works the best.

Rachael L. Moore

I want to do something along the lines of this, showing the closer and closer link between people and technology.

I think it would be better to do a nude and draw on the veins in silver acrylic paint, but I doubt I could find a model to do that.

Exhibition space

The exhibition would be held on a long glass wall around a conference room. The theme - my digital world fits in with the space as the building is digitally advanced.

Questions

Is there any research that surprised you? Why?
None of my research surprised me, as I am already used to all the technology involved in the research and I can predict what will happen.

What is the most appealing area of my digital world? How might you take this into investigation?
The most appealing area so far is exploring how photos pixelate and the effect it has on the photograph. I could explore this by taking lots of different photos and see what they look like when they are pixelated.

What might you take photos of? How would you do this?
I want to take photos of people or body parts covered in wires and pixelate them, representing how the digital age has effected people and how people are seen. The wires would represent veins, and people can be dependent on technology and can't function without it.

Pixelation

1) Image resolution 6 pixels/inch

2) Saved on low resolution, then cropped and saved again

Inspired by Thomas Ruff and Josef Schulz

They both attended the Dusseldorf Academy of Art, taught by Bernd Becher
Joself Schulz studied from 1993 - 1999, Thomas Ruff from 1977 - 1985
They both manipulate the photos they take, Schulz uses photoshop to take out parts of the photo, and Ruff used pixelation so the pixels were visable.

Websites

This is a short list of some of the websites I use. 3 of them are social networking sites, and it shows how many different ways there are of communication over the Internet.

Exploring pixels - Camera Phone

The camera phone has 3.2 megapixels so the quality isn't as good as the digital camera. It also takes less to pixelate it.

Exploring pixels - Digital Camera

The digital camera has a high resolution, so it takes more zooming in to see the pixels.

Digital Media

The left is a digital camera, the right is a 3.2mp camera phone. The camera phone's colours aren't as good, and there is more glare. You can see the difference in the quality, but they are both clear and useable.

The right one has more shadows as the lens hasn't captured as much light as the digital camera. The colours also look darker and the metal looks brassier. They are clear but the digital image from the camera is clearer.
